Darlene Carreras, of Marlborough, is charged with manslaughter in the stabbing death of 45-year-old Eric Murray inside the Stone Gate Apartments on Saint Ives Way, the Middlesex District Attorney said.

A neighbor of Carreras called 911 just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after they heard sounds of a fight and a woman screaming for help, the prosecutor said. When officers arrived, they found Murray lying on the floor and bleeding from stab wounds.

Paramedics rushed him to UMass Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Carreras had several cuts to her hands, authorities said. Responders also took her to the hospital for treatment.

Prosecutors said Murray’s minor-aged son was inside the apartment when the killing happened.

Police said the two had gotten into an argument that day when Carreras grabbed a knife and drove it into Murray’s chest. She applied pressure to the wound but did not call 911. Instead, she called a friend to come and help, the prosecutor said.

Carreras reportedly ran away following the stabbing, Massachusetts State Police said. The state’s Violent Fugitive Apprehensive Team tracked her down to a family member’s home on Blossom Street in Worcester, where they arrested her without incident. Carreras is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, which is scheduled for Aug. 23, the prosecutor said.
